Why You Should Use Professional Hair ProductsMay 20, 2017
Let me start by saying, if you use box dyes & super market branded products you are not alone – a large number of people fall into the misconception of box dyes and are mislead by all the marketing and celebrity endorsements that come along with it all.
I am not even going to go into what is in a box dye – the problem is not only is it cheap and nasty but it is impossible to know what colour or level you are even attempting to use. Also how do you know that the colour you have chosen is going to even work on your hair? It is like walking into a make up store and picking up any foundation bottle, going home and putting natural C4 on your NW 11 face and crossing your fingers people wont notice it is 3 shades too dark. We pick a foundation based on skin tone – similar to the way hair stylists mix a colour suited to the tones in your hair. Every client will have a personalised colour applied to their hair based on the shade, tone, condition and previous hair history. There is no “one fits all” when it comes to colour.
The other downside is unprofessional products all contain a silicon that actually builds up layer upon layer on your hair over time, this becomes a problem when you then go to colour your hair or wish to change or lighten your hair as there will most likely be some kind of chemical reaction when it comes in contact with the hair bleach causing extreme heat in your hair leading to hair damage & hair breakage.
These products also create colour banding as the colour will deposit unevenly and your colour will fade extremely fast. The silicon acts as a barrier now, so any treatments you do or products you try to put in your do not penetrate through this which cause all the bonds inside your hair to weaken and lesson. This results in unhealthy, weak, dry and damaged hair.
No one wants to have unhealthy hair – we all want our hair to be soft on the outside, strong on the inside which is possible by investing in good quality salon products even though they are that little bit more expensive, it is worth it as your hair will be in its best condition your colours will last and your hair will be manageable.
Finally, it is very important that you tell your hairdresser exactly what your previous hair history is and what products you use as it is so important for us to know what canvas we are working with to ensure your hair is treated the correct way.
If you don’t already, think about investing in salon professional products and avoid any box dye. In the long run this will save you a whole lot of time and money. Resulting in low maintenance hair and long lasting colours.
